So by now you should have been soul searching and getting SMART. If we’re lucky, we’ve even got a bit SMARTER. If it isn’t done yet, don't worry, as the information in this post will definitely help you get really focused and really hone in on the goals list. I have found that in the past there were two reasons why I failed to achieve my goals.

These two things are huge and I really want you to start thinking in these terms. I failed because of my personal lack of purpose (vision) and belief. I wrote things down, and tried to do it quickly, because anything that takes longer than an hour for me, I’d lose concentration and just want to get it done. Of course I was a younger man then, and the years have helped me with the clarity of vision I have for my future.

We are talking about something that is extremely important to your quality of life here people. If it takes you a bit longer to do this first step, that is fine. We need to definitely get this right because you are about to put your brain into warp mode. Don’t let this scare you. The most successful people in the world, and I’m not talking about money here, have taken ownership of their goals and backed these goals with a vision, backed by continuous action and a burning desire for it’s attainment.

You may want to revisit that page, as there are a lot of inter twining threads that run all the through this site. There is a reason why the logo with the 4 rings was designed the way it is. Whether it be fitness, health, mind issues...they are ALL INTER-CONNECTED. You can’t have one without the other and be truly successful. The first port of call in achieving our goals is to actively have vision and visualize the goal being met. What it feels like, what it looks like.

A vision is basically creating a picture in your minds eye to feed your subconscious.

The subconscious is where all of the neural pathways of behavior have been ingrained into the behavior you exhibit every day in your conscious life. The mind is very good at working in pictures. So in essence, you must be able to picture in your mind what the end result is when it is accomplished. Once we have this picture, (a vision), we feed this picture into our subconscious, which will go to work for us and align itself with its outward physical counterpart of our daily conscious life.

Suspend your current reality! Forget about the bills, the job etc. Let yourself go!!

Once we have given the subconscious the picture, we must make it as clear and detailed as we possibly can. The clearer the vision or picture, the greater the chances of you accomplishing your goals. If you want to lose weight for instance, have a vision of yourself at your optimal shape. Once you see it, make it bigger, more vibrant, more detailed.

Now after you have done this, I want you to picture yourself at your worst. Put it into black and white. Make it a bit blurry and smaller. Move it further and further away until it is in the very far distance. Now relax for a moment, have a vision and picture yourself again in your optimal shape. Make it big, vibrant, colorful. Place the "raise your hairs on the back of your neck" type feeling to that optimal positive image of yourself.

 No taking any days off. Pick a quiet time of the day when you will not be disturbed by anyone, any phones ringing or kids screaming!! Each time, I want you to make your worst image of yourself and make it normal size, place it into black and white, make it a bit blurry and push it further and further into the distance until you can barely see it. After you do this, again relax for a few minutes. Then make that very vivid vision and visual picture of your new self emerge. Place a smile on yourself and sense of well being with that picture. Do this for 15 minutes a day.

So, I am asking you to give to yourself 1 hour and 45 minutes of visualization to this exercise every week...NO EXCEPTIONS. You can do this technique with anything that you want to achieve. If you want to be muscular and ripped, follow the same principles I have just explained to you. Begin to feel more and more confident within yourself. You have a much more bright and positive picture of yourself and everyone around you will start to see small gradual changes in you. Both mentally and physically.

Now, you are going to have to be brutally honest with yourself. Once you have the vision clearly pictured in your head, you have to ask yourself the million dollar question. Why is the goal important to you! There must me a deep underlying desire on why you want to reach your goal. It has to be powerful enough to drive you to reach it.

So as Napoleon Hill quoted... “There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it”.

Purpose is defined as ; 1. the reason for which anything is done, created or exists. 2. a fixed design or idea that is the object of an action. 3. determination. Let’s make sure that we understand the difference between your goals and the over all purpose. Goals are the basic stairs in a beautiful spiral stair case. The purpose is the beautiful house that those stairs live in.

Make sure you get to the root of why you want to achieve your goal. If you want to lose 30 pounds of excess weight, keep asking why it is important to you. For example; I want to lose 30 pounds. Why is this important to me? Because I want to feel better about myself. If I feel better about myself, I’ll have more confidence and be able to walk on the beach with my shirt off and not be embarrassed or embarrass my partner.

Why is this important too me? So that I will feel like I am more attractive to my spouse. Why is that important to me? If I am more attractive to my spouse he /she will want to spend more time with me. Why is that important to me? Because I love him/her very much and want us to be a close loving couple. You get the gist...I hope.

So basically, in this made up example, if we took the first question and its answer at face value as our purpose for losing weight, we would have been wrong about the purpose of why we want to lose 30 pounds. The real deep burning purpose would be that you love your partner and want to have a loving close relationship with them, and by losing the weight you would feel more confident within yourself and radiate attractiveness and more openness to your spouse or partner.

As long as you follow the drift of the questions you need to ask yourself regarding your definite purpose, you will hold the key to vision and sustaining your drive to attain your goals over the course of time!
