So “GOOD POSTURE” takes the number 1 place on the list. It has earned its position as being top dog when it comes to absolute musts when speaking in fitness terms.

Number 2 will be the CORE. When I say the core, I am not just talking about the abs. Don’t get me wrong, evidence of a tight strong core would be the six pack. You can’t have a six pack if you don’t have the core. It’s like putting the cart before the horse. A pure six pack only shows up after you put the core work in. They go hand in hand as we say. A lot of folks are misguided by the term CORE”. So what is the core and why does it come in so high at number 2?

If you are like me, when you eat an apple, you eat it down to the center, otherwise known as the apple core. So basically, the term core is defined as:

- A central part of, an essential part of something, the main internal memory of a computer, the internal center of a fruit or apple.” In the dictionary, I was able to find plenty of other definitions of the core, but can’t find the one on the body/core. This is because it is a fairly new term coined in the fitness industry for the girdle around the center of your body. Fitness coaches and professional sports men have known the benefits of a tight strong core for years.

The core involves over 13 different muscles in the center part of your body. From your back , the erector spinae to the transverse muscles, that are the underlying girdle under the abs themselves, to the obliques, both internal and external..(love handle area), and the top, most well recognized area of the core, the 6 pack area or the rectus abdominus -

OK, that’s enough technical stuff!

Now there are a lot of fitness sites out there with their own feel to them and will bore you to tears with overly technical speak. That’s not a bad thing if you like the real technical end of things. It’s like the computer programmer who has helped me build this site and functionality. I really don’t want to know every < > :/--= in the CSS code (cascading style sheet) thpicture image of a motivational quoteat make things work the way they do on this site. He’s doing a GREAT JOB and as long as there is a method to his madness, and he is at the wheel, per say, I don’t really want to know. I trust him, as you can trust me. There is always a method to my madness. Check out the testimonial area of the site and see what my clients have to say. We work hard, but we play hard too!!

[highlights color="red"]Keep it Simple! A tight core will definitely help.[/highlights]

I promised you in the beginning that I would keep this site as SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE, and I am going to stay true to my word. All of my clients both here at fitnesshealthandmind.com and in my personal 1:1 training sessions, know that I am at the wheel and that they trust me. In the instructional videos I will touch onpicture image of a motivational quote the basic muscles involved in any movement that I ask you to perform. I want you thinking about whether you are using your abs, your obliques, your lower back, etc.

The BIG thing that I want you to grasp in this post is this. Regardless of what exercise you are doing, I want you to be in an upright, confident postural position and I insist that you tighten up the core area in the middle. You can think of it like this. If I put a rope around your back and tied it in the front quite snuggley, just above your navel and under your rib cage, that would be the feeling we are trying to achieve.

Like the dictionary definition of core, this is your center of BALANCE and POWER. Have you ever seen those guys who break 3,4 even 5 cinder blocks stacked one upon the other with their bare hand.

[highlights color="yellow"]How the Heck do they do that?[/highlights]

It is actually quite a simple process once the mental state is achieved. They focus and the energy moves down to the center of the core area. Exactly where you will be focusing your energy. With a very focused state and total control over the energy building through the body, they explode a LASER targeted like energy through their core and transfer the Laser targeted focused energy through their hand. Result, an explosion of focused and harnessed energy and they break all the blocks. This focused energy takes a lot of practice and patience, but you can achieve the same type of focused energy in your training.

So there you have it folks. The number 2 MUST on the 1,2,3 list is a TIGHT CORE. We are going to twist it, bend it, crunch it, make it static and build continuous focus throughout our training together. At fitnesshealthandmind, we thrive on challenge and aim to get better and better every time we do exercise. We push our limits and learn to live with a bit of discomfort from time to time throughout our training sessions.

So what is number 3?

Much like the people who karate chop a load of cinder blocks, you will learn by habit to do this third MUST on the list. Without it, your training is scattered, lacking direction and will lead to mediocrity in your training and the results you achieve here with me. We DON’T do mediocrity at fitnesshealthandmind. We play to be winners and achieve all of our goals through relentless excellence in everything we go after.
We sacrifice for progress and then be happy we did when the results roll in.

We’ll talk about number 3 in the next post, but for now, please leave a comment and let me know what you think.
